Imao Keinen
Kacho-ga (birds and flowers)
original vintage Japanese woodblock reproductions
from Birds & Flowers of the Four Seasons
– 1984 –
Original vintage prints over 30 years old.
These Japanese woodblock reproductions are some of the finest from Keinen, originally published over 140 years ago, in 1882.
They are from the genre Kacho-ga, pictures of birds and flowers, originally inspired by the Chinese. The balanced composition, the delicacy of detail and color, and the subtle harmony of these prints all contribute to making Birds & Flowers of the Four Seasons a series of classic appeal.
The artist, Imao Keinen, was honored by his country with the title Artist of the Japanese Empire and with membership in the Imperial Fine Arts Academy.
